National Hiking Guide, wilderness explorer, strandloper & fynbos fanatic
I rank South Africa, and in particular the Western Cape, as the best of the best.
More about me
A qualified National Hiking Guide, four-time Olympian, avid botanist, photographer and accomplished mountaineer, my passion is introducing hikers to the natural wonders of South Africa.
Born and raised in Scotland, I’m widely travelled and have lived and adventured in South Africa for 30 years.
Former editor of OutThere Magazine, regular contributor to international and South African travel magazines and author of numerous guidebooks on hiking in the Western Cape, I’m
also a member of the local Mountain Rescue team, the Mountain Club of South Africa and the UK’s Alpine Club.
Experience uniqueness
Whether you want the thrill of bagging summits, scrambling up
wooded ravines, beachcombing, learning about the history of the Cape on lesser-known trails or strolling through the fynbos discovering the unique flowers of the most concentrated, diverse floral kingdom in the world, you’ll be in safe, experienced hands.
Let’s go!
My main stomping grounds are Lion’s Head, Table Mountain (including the pristine indigenous forest of Orange Kloof, a restricted area), Cape Point and the little-known but incredible peaks and reserves of the Cape Winelands.
My favourite multi-day trails include the iconic 2-day Cape of Good Hope Trail and 5-day Whale Trail as well as bespoke trips to the Cederberg and other wilderness areas.
Publications include:
